The city councils of Valladolid, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Valencia, Logroño, Fuenlabrada and Gijón signed an agreement between municipalities for the implementation of the Connected Cities Project. This project will be the national reference platform for the implementation, development and innovation of urban mobility in cities, serving in turn as a governance or strategy planning tool for the city councils, placing the security and simplification of the tool for citizens at the centre of the project.

The entire project, subject to grant PRTRMU-21-00225 (a single action P19_L1-20210927-1 Connected Cities Project), has as its fundamental goal the development and implementation of a multi-city digital platform, open source, for the collection, processing and exploitation of mobility data in an integrated and interoperable way. It will provide different urban mobility services and mobility management in a coordinated manner, including the joint management of monetary transfers with users.
The group of municipalities decided to apply for the subsidy called by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, pursuant to Order TMA/892/2021 of 17 August, approving the regulatory bases for the Aid Program to municipalities for the implementation of low-emission zones and the digital and sustainable transformation of urban transport within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, which was approved by the Ministerial Order of 20 May 2022 approving the aid for the first call for the aid program for municipalities for the implementation of low-emission zones and the digital and sustainable transformation of urban transport, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
In order to efficiently and effectively develop the project, the action is structured into nine work packages based on the different operational areas involved in its execution, coordination and management, legal regulations, process auditing, design of the technological solution, implementation, application certification and IT infrastructure. Each city is responsible for developing one of these packages and a portion of the subsidy. The table shows the initial amounts and the level of allocation as of March 31, 2024 (excluding VAT).
